Tajikistan
Tajikistan located in the southeast of Central Asia. It has an area of 143 thousand square kilometers. Population of is about 6. 74 million people. Tajikistan borders in the west and in the north with Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, in the south and in the east with Afghanistan and China. Mountains occupy 93 % of Tajikistan’s territory. The largest cities are Dushanbe, Kulyab, Kurgan Tyube, Garm, Murghab and Khorog.
Deposits of antimony, mercury, arsenic, boron, piezoelectric quartz, rock crystal, optical fluorite, Iceland spar, lazurite, noble spinel, gold (goldfields), tungsten ores were found in the area of Pamir and Gissar-Alay; polymetallic ores, rare metals, piezooptic raw materials, uranium, scheelite, fossil coal - in Kuraminskaya zone of Tajikistan. There are deposits of oil, gas, coal, pyroschist, rock salt in the Tadjik and Fergana depressions. The basic industries are power industry, metal mining industry, non-ferrous metallurgy, mechanical engineering, metalworking production, manufacture of building materials, chemical, cotton, silk, clothing, carpet, the food-processing industries. Six Hydroelectric Power Stations, the most powerful of which is Nurekskaya Station, as well as a number of large Heat Power Plants operate in Tajikistan. The country satisfies 50 % of its needs on the account of own energy supply sources. The basic branch of fuel industry is coal industry.

- Trends: Aluminium industry is represented by the state-owned Talco - the biggest aluminium plant in Central Asia and one of the biggest in the world.[21]Tajikistan has great hydropower potential, and has focused on attracting investment for projects for internal use and electricity exports.
